FAMILY GATHERINGS Traditionally families in Kerala get together for betrothal, wedding, baptism, and death anniversary of family members. Among these death anniversary can be considered special to Kerala Catholic Community when family members meet and share their memories of the deceased person. Birth day celebrations, jubilees, and formal family gatherings are of recent introduction from the western culture. Mutholath family had its first formal family gathering held in the morning on December 28, 1993 at the house of M.C. Chacko Kizhakke-varikattu. The following photo was taken on that occasion. A second gathering was held two years after that at the house of Chacko Kurian Mutholath when the family members of Chacko Kurian came to Kerala for vacation. Date and photograph of that gathering is not available for this website at present. THIRD GATHERING This get together was organized in a grand level with available Mutholath family members and the families of ladies who were given in marriage from Mutholath family. The program was held at Chaithanya Pastoral Center at Thellakom in Kottayam on Saturday, January 11, 2003 from 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry inaugurated the gathering. Printed invitations were given to all the expected members of Mutholath and related family members. A special one page feature on Mutholath Kudumba Samgamam was published with the history and photographs of Mutholath family in Apna Des, the diocesan fortnightly. Program started with registration, refreshments, informal mingling, taking video and photographs of the members. Holy Mass started at Chaithanya chapel at 3:00 P.M. Fr. Abraham Mutholath was the celebrant. As an opening ceremony all those who have died from Mutholath and related families were remembered by lighting 25 candles in a Nilavilakku by representatives of different families. Fr. Michael Vettikkattu delivered the sermon emphasizing the relevance of love and unity of family members. Video and photographing continued after the Holy Mass. After tea, all gathered in the hall of Chaithanya at 5:00 P.M.. Participants came to the stage and introduced themselves. Bishop Kuriakose Kunnacherry arrived at the hall at 5:30 P.M. as scheduled. Fr. Abraham Mutholath, who organized the gathering, officially welcomed all to the Mutholath Kudumba Samgamam. Mr. M.C. Jacob Mutholath presented the contribution of the family for Caritas Cancer Center to Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry. Bishop Kuriakose Kunnacherry in his inaugural address thanked Mutholath family for our contributions to the parish church and the diocese. He also appreciated the service of Fr. Abraham Mutholath and Sr. Saly S.V.M. for the Diocese of Kottayam. He advised that Knanaya Community should keep up its traditional family names and name of individuals without changes even when we go abroad for living. Bishop Kunnacherry inaugurated the website of Mutholath family. He distributed special mementoes to the following family members: 1. Mary Joseph Mutholath (The eldest member of Mutholath family at present) 2. M.C. Chacko Mutholath for drafting the history of Mutholath family 3. Sr. Eugenia (Cicily Joseph Mutholath) the first missionary from the Mutholath family. Sr. Saly S.V.M. said vote of Thanks. Members were given opportunities to talk from the stage.
