Appachan was the eldest son of Annamma and Kochuchandy Poovathumkal. Kochuchandy had a son Chandy and a daughter from his first marriage. After her death, Kochuchany married Annamma Thottupurathu from Cherpunkal. Appchan was a businessman and lived with his parents.
പൂവത്തുങ്കൽ ചാണ്ടിയുടെ മകൻ കുഞ്ഞുചാണ്ടിയുടെ ആദ്യവിവാഹത്തിൽ ഒരു പെണ്ണും ഒരു ആണും (ചാണ്ടിയും) ഉണ്ടായശേഷം, ആദ്യ മരിച്ചു. പിന്നിടു ചാണ്ടി ചേർപ്പുങ്കൽ തോട്ടുപുറത്ത് അന്നമ്മയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തു. അവർക്ക് അപ്പച്ചൻ, കുര്യാക്കോ എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ട് ആൺമക്കളും ഒരു മകളും ഉണ്ടായി. അപ്പച്ചനും സഹോദരൻ കുര്യാക്കോയും യവ്വനം മുതൽ ചെറിയ കൈത്തൊഴിലുകൾ ചെയ്തും കച്ചവടം നടത്തിയും ജീവിതനിലവാരം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തി.
